Food manufacture, wholesale and online retail, registered in London.
Gut Grub Ltd is registered in England and Wales for the manufacture of other food products not elsewhere classified (SIC 10890), the wholesale of pharmaceutical goods (46460) and retail sale via mail order houses or via the internet (47910). Its registered office is at 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ.
The name. “Gut Grub” is a trading name and nothing more. It is not a statement about digestion, gut flora, gut health or any other bodily function, and it should not be read as one. We mention this because a company name that gestures at a part of the body is exactly the kind of thing that drifts into an implied health claim, and we would rather rule it out in writing on the first page than rely on everybody reading it charitably.
Claims. In Great Britain a nutrition or health claim may only be made about a food if it appears on the GB Nutrition and Health Claims Register, is made in the authorised wording or wording with the same meaning, and the product meets the conditions of use attached to it. Separately, it is prohibited to attribute to any food the property of preventing, treating or curing a human disease, or to refer to such properties: a product presented that way is a medicinal product under the Human Medicines Regulations 2012 and needs a marketing authorisation. Some terms are themselves unauthorised claims — “probiotic” is the best-known example. Nothing on this website makes any nutrition or health claim, any medicinal claim, or any claim about what any product does to or for a person. If a customer or brand owner wants a claim on a pack, we check it against the register before it is printed, and where it is not authorised we say no.
Pharmaceutical wholesale. SIC 46460 is on the company’s record, and we would rather explain it than leave it hanging. Wholesale dealing in medicinal products in the UK — obtaining, holding, supplying or exporting them — requires a Wholesale Dealer’s Licence issued by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, and doing it without one is a criminal offence. This website does not claim that we hold such a licence and you must not assume that we do. We do not handle, store, supply or sell medicinal products.
Food safety. A food business must be registered with its local authority, and premises handling certain products must be approved rather than merely registered. Food businesses must operate permanent procedures based on HACCP principles, and must declare the fourteen regulated allergens. Those are legal requirements that apply to the operator. This website does not state which registrations, approvals or ratings are currently in place, does not claim any Food Hygiene Rating Scheme score, and does not claim any certification, audit standard or accreditation. Ask us, and check with the local authority.
